As it has proved to be highly successful in past seasons, in 2010 WALK PICOS will be offering the same type of walking holidays (hotel-based), which will be available all through the walking season, excepting July and August (peak season in Spain) when 'Pension + Hostel + Hut accomodation' walking holidays will take place (see 'Dates and Prices' section):

  • One-week 'Traverse of the three massifs' trek: Six whole days of walking activity plus two half-days for the trips to/from Picos. Linear trail moving on each day, arriving at a different village at the end of each day's walk, and so sleeping in a different country hotel (pension-hostel-hut in July and August) every night. This way you can sample a variety of places and rural customs, and at the end of your last stage you will have a rewarding sense of achievement having traversed all three massifs of the national Park from one end to the other. This type of holiday you will have to transport your personal belongings in your backpack (overnight gear, some spare clothing, etc) some days, though maximum number of days without access to your extra baggage will be two, as a vehicle containing the extra baggage will meet us at intervals. July and August' treks will be following an almost identical itinerary to the hotel-based ones except that they include a night at an alpine hut located at 1950m/6398ft of altitude and that accommodation will be in pensions+hostels+mountain hut.

Length of trips will be one week; however, longer or shorter ones can be arranged upon special request (for groups of more than four people and subject to availability of dates).

All guides and talks will be conducted in english. For those non english-speaking clients, Rafael will make every effort to make himself understood. Furthermore, every person will be provided with maps, route details and local information.

Walking at your own pace is the best way to enjoy your hill walking, however, each day a few meeting-points will be set along the way to have lunch, to give informal tutorials, etc.

As your guide is, at the same time, co-owner of the company, he will make sure that every detail runs smoothly and he will try to exceed our customers' expectations, including added extras whenever possible such as:

  • making detours in order to visit some coastal sceneries, while transferring to and from Santander and Bilbao.
  • leading some short walks around every village that we get to at the end of every walking day, for those still 'in the mood' for a little more action.
  • ascending a few easy but high peaks along the walking routes with those of you wanting to see things from above.
